Our expert staff will guide you through the process of having your custom rug created. By utilising our personalised service, you will be ensured a relaxed and streamlined experience from start to finish.
Unlike others, we put you in control. We offer different types and grades of fabric, allowing you to commission a rug of the very highest standard or to keep costs under control while maintaining a high quality and excellent durability and appearance. We work with various types of wool, viscose and even silk on request, and will of course advise on the most appropriate fabric for your design and use.
Most of our bespoke rugs are hand-tufted, however, dependent on design and on request we can have your rug hand-knotted in a Nepalese or more traditional knotting style.
Simply provide us with the design you would like made and we can have it made and delivered within 12 weeks or less*.
Need inspiration? We can work with you to come up with a design to suit your interior.
Custom rug prices start from just £145/m² for plain rugs to your own colour and from £195/m² for bespoke designs up to 5 colours and are inclusive of vat, consultation, design and delivery to your door*.
Our available colours of wool and viscose can be viewed below or in-store. If you have a colour sample you'd like matched, please contact us, we can use our colour box with 1,400 shades of wool and 700 shades of viscose (art silk) to select or match colours, meaning you can be confident of getting an almost exact colour match:
Why have a custom rug made?
The reasons behind creating a custom rug are endless:
Perhaps you have seen a rug that you love but the size is wrong for your room? Why not have your rug made to measure? The same could apply for colours, we can take any design you like and adapt it giving you a custom coloured rug.
We can match colours to any paint or fabric that you may have, in store we have sample cards for quality paint ranges such as Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Craig & Rose, Abigail Ahern and Sanderson. We can use these colours, or anything physical you provide, to match colours as closely as possible. Pantone numbers are popular, particularly for those looking for custom logo rugs for businesses and brands.
Designing your own rug really makes a house a home and adds that personal touch to your living space, it can tie rooms together or take inspiration from architectural features.
Why not have a kids rug created out of one of your children's drawings or favourite TV characters (like we did for 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' rug)?
Many businesses, sports clubs and organisations opt for corporate logo rugs and emblems for their receptions, boardrooms, headquarters or retail spaces. Think of a jeweller's entrance and a custom rug with the company name and logo in the corporate fonts and colours. Others require something that fits perfectly with what could be a difficult space for a number of reasons such as size, shape or existing decor. Designers and owners of boats, yachts and super yachts find custom rugs particularly useful.
Whatever the reason, we will work with you to bring to life the design of your choosing.
Unlike most custom rug producers in London and around the UK, a custom rug from Love-Rugs does not need to cost the earth. While designer or custom rugs in London generally start at several hundred pounds per square metre (with some costing well into the thousands); at Love-Rugs the standard price for a custom hand-tufted rug in pure wool is £195/m2 inclusive of vat and delivery.
Not only do we provide excellent quality and value but at Love-Rugs we do not limit you to altering existing design. When we say custom, we mean it.
Choose a rug design, design it yourself, either way we will make it for you in your own shape, fabric, colours and size.
I am just writing to say how delighted we are with our rug. It surpassed our expectations. I will tell everyone about your fantastic service and am sure some more commissions will be yours shortly.
Thank you it arrived safely and we love it. Thanks for all your patience with us.
Deepa Shah (London)

What is involved in making a custom rug?
Step 1 - Design
Is there a rug on our site, or elsewhere, that you wish you could have but it's not quite the right colours or the size isn't right for your room? Do you have a design in mind or would like your rug to match a pattern or colour in your room? Would you like a corporate logo or a customised message implemented into a rug? Simply send us your image, design, or link to another rug or work with us to bring an idea to life.
Step 2 - Size, Shape & Quality
Most clients opt for a normal rectangular or square rug but we can create rugs in all shapes and sizes (circular rugs are popular, cut-out designs are possible and we recently made a hexagonal shaped logo rug for Google). If you want a silhouette of a person there is nothing stopping you. We can make rugs of any size. The quality or type of material is often chosen dependent on budget and intended use and we can help to recommend the best fabric for where the rug will be used. Once we have all this information we can provide you with an accurate quote for the rug.
Step 3 - Deposit & Implementation
Once we establish a design, get the OK from our weavers and you agree to a price, we ask that you pay a deposit for us to start the work. This is normally one third of the total and covers our time spent on designing and consultation as well as allowing us to give the go-ahead for the real work to begin. A tufted rug normally takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to complete depending on design and size. Hand-knotted rugs can take longer.
We can sometimes have images taken of the rug being made and after completion emailed to clients while you wait for your creation being delivered. Due to high shipping costs for rugs across continents we normally wait for several custom rugs to be completed before importing them to the UK, this helps to keep costs down for everyone, it simply does not make sense to bring rugs over one at a time so we offer this as an additional service as mentioned above. Most clients however are happy to wait that little bit longer for their one-of-a-kind bespoke rug.
Step 4 - Sit Back and Relax - Your Rug Will be Delivered to Your Door
Once the order is finalized it normally takes 8-12 weeks for the wool to be dyed, the pattern to be tufted then the rug shaved, washed and finished, delivery to the UK and then couriered to your door.
If you are willing to pay for an individual shipment rather than the rug being sent to the UK with a few others a priority order can be placed, cutting lead times to around 5-6 weeks for standard sized rugs.
Our highest profile custom rug project to date: 'Google Chrome'. The client, a branding and marketing agency in London, sent us a brief to create a custom logo rug for Google Chrome. The company, working on behalf of Google required a rug as a centrepiece and focal point for conferences and trade shows. We worked with the client to use the Google Pantone colours from their company branding to match as closely as possible with our colours. The circular rug was tufted in India on a large loom. The images show the logo example, the colours chosen and the rug on the loom (the back of the rug before clipping and gluing) and the rug when it arrived to our store before being delivered to the client.
It's safe to say the client was delighted with the rug and went on to order a Google Cloud Service hexagonal logo rug.
Case Study - A Very Hungry Caterpillar
We were contacted by a client looking for a bespoke rug based on his child's favourite story: 'A Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The client sent us the story cover and asked us to base a rug on it. Being a child's rug it was decided to use a beige background rather than white (that could get messy!) and remove some of the pattern from the outside to make it more feasible and cost effective to implement. Below are pictures of the cover, the rug in production and the finished article,e implemented in thick tufted wool. This is just one example of the work we can carry out.
Create a rug, any rug of your choosing, in an exact size. Maybe you are looking to fit a rug into a cut-out on your floor or your room is an unusual size. Perhaps you like a design but it is only made in smaller sizes. At Love-Rugs we can take any design and make it to any size you desire.
Custom Coloured Rugs
It's not unusual for clients to find a design the love but the colours aren't perfect for their interior. At Love-Rugs we can adapt any design to the colours you want. Why settle for second best when you can have the rug made to your exact tastes and requirements? Find the perfect rug and make it even better by customising the colours.
Custom Shaped Rugs
A rug doesn't need to be rectangular, we've taken rugs in rectangular designs and made them square. We can make circular rugs, polygons or curved lines. We've made rugs in the shape of flowers. Anything is possible!

We have 1400 shades of wool available to select from:
And 700 unique shades of art-silk:
All colours are able to be viewed 7 days a week in our gallery. At a distance, generally we can colour match via email and images; sending out returnable sample colours is possible if required after a deposit has been paid.
By default our custom rugs are hand-tufted. Most clients opt for dense standard wool which costs £195/m2 for flat wool and £200/m2 for carved wool using up to 5 colours. We would recommend carving between the colours for most designs making this our most popular quality. To upgrade to New Zealand wool costs £245/m2 - this offers a smoother, softer, and more consistent wool which does a better job of absorbing colour from the dyes. Both wool qualities are excellent and produce heavy-weight rugs. New Zealand wool is always highly recommended when using larger area of white or lighter colours. The reason for this is that wool is not naturally white, however New Zealand wool is the whitest wool available on the market, so after treating the wool to create a white fabric, New Zealand wool appears cleaner and whiter than its other counterparts. Wool with viscose (art-silk) details costs £225/m2 or £245/m2 if using New Zealand wool. 100% viscose rugs cost £265/m2. Our prices are inclusive of all charges and delivery within mainland UK*. Having multiple rugs made to the same colour and design will lower the price.
If you are a trade customer, an interior designer or architect contact us to discuss projects and budgets.
*Free delivery on custom rug orders over £250 using our standard delivery service.
Very small rugs will be subject to a minimum fee due to the cost of setting up production, buying wool, dyes etc. This is generally 1m2 - it should be noted that certain designs are not possible in smaller sizes due to the intricacy of the design and pattern. Overly large rugs (those which are over 3m in both length and width) may cost extra as certain sizes and weights require specialised shipping and incur additional handling fees. More intricate patterns with labour intensive detail, complex carving or a large number of colours used in the design will increase the cost per square metre.
