Retro Rugs

Give your room a playful nod to the past with Retro rugs featuring bold patterns, nostalgic colours and expressive shapes.

What makes a rug retro?

Retro is a broader look than any single decade, borrowing shapes, colours and motifs from the middle and later years of the 20th century. Checkerboards, bold stripes, sunburst forms, oversized flowers and curving abstract patterns all have a place. You might prefer warm mustard and brown, or lean towards pink, blue and brighter colour combinations.

A retro rug can make an otherwise simple room feel lively without requiring vintage furniture throughout. The trick is choosing which part of the look you like most. If you love shaggy textures and avocado-green palettes, a 70s-inspired scheme may be the closer fit; if you prefer crisp modernist geometry, look towards Mid Century Modern.

Styling colourful retro rugs

Use a large statement rug to anchor a living room, or choose a smaller geometric design to bring personality to a bedroom or home office. Repeating one accent colour in artwork or accessories helps a playful pattern feel intentional. Retro works particularly well when paired with a few contemporary pieces, keeping the room fresh rather than turning it into a period set.
