Traditional rugs come in a range of designs and materials. To help us narrow down your search we have divided our traditional pieces into a number of sub-categories. These include: traditional hand-knotted, traditional hand-woven, tradtional hand-tufted and traditional machine-made.
Hand-knotted rugs are put together one knot at a time and can take years to complete. They are often considered a form of art and along with the number of hours going in to making the unique pieces their price is reflected in this. Our current range of knotted rugs include Persian & Oriental designs as well as some quality modern designer pieces. For wider range of Persian & Oriental hand-knotted carpets visit our sister site Little-Persia.
Hand-woven rugs are also put together by hand but are different in that their structure is interwoven with different colours to create shapes and patterns. These rugs tend to be flat-woven or thin.
Hand tufting is the process of pushing or pulling the material through a grid-like structure before glueing the material in place. This can either be hooked through or shot through a special gun.
Machine-made rugs come any a multitude of designs, fabrics and qualities and can look very similar to hand-knotted rugs although do not generally last for the generations that most of their handmade counterparts do.
